Drives that are still flat in ten years.
Block paving, resin and tarmac driveways, and stone and porcelain patios, across Mirfield, Dewsbury and Huddersfield. Dug out properly, laid on a compacted sub-base, and guaranteed for ten years because of it.
- 10-year written guarantee
- Marshalls registered
- Same crew, start to finish

What we do
Drives, patios and everything round them.
Most of our jobs are whole fronts or whole back gardens: the drive, the path, the kerb and the drainage, done as one job by one crew. Hover or tap a service to see it.
- 01
Block paving driveways
Herringbone, stretcher or mixed-size blocks in clay or concrete, with a soldier-course edge and kiln-dried sand joints.
Fronts with a bit of shape to them, and anyone who wants it to still look sharp in twenty years.
- 02
Resin bound driveways
Smooth, permeable and weed-free. Laid 18mm thick on a new base, or on sound existing concrete, in whatever colour mix suits the house.
Awkward shapes, slopes and drives where you’d rather never sweep gravel again.
- 03
Tarmac driveways
Two-coat hot tarmac for bigger drives and parking areas, with a block edge so the sides don’t crumble away.
Long drives, shared access and anywhere vans and trailers turn.
- 04
Patios & paths
Indian sandstone, porcelain and natural stone, laid on a full mortar bed with proper falls so the rain runs away from the house.
Back gardens that want to be used, not just looked at.
- 05
Drainage & dropped kerbs
Channel drains, soakaways and permeable grids so the water goes where it should, and council-approved dropped kerbs for new drives.
Turning a front lawn into parking without a puddle at the door.
- 06
Walls, steps & edging
Retaining walls, garden steps and sleeper edging built at the same time as the paving, so it all matches and nothing is an afterthought.
Sloping plots and anywhere the levels need sorting first.
How we build
What’s under your drive is why it lasts.
A drive that sinks or puddles was nearly always laid on too little base. Tap each layer to see what we put down, how deep, and why it matters.
Overlaying an old drive is quicker and cheaper, and we’ll do it if the base underneath is sound. If it isn’t, we’ll show you why and dig it out.
Before & after
Drag it. Same front, six days later.
Old flags with weeds through every joint and a car parked on the lean, turned into a drive with room for two cars and a step to the door that doesn’t pool.

Mirfield, block paving with feature borders
The old flags came up on day one. We found soft ground under half of it, so it was dug out to 260mm and built back up properly, with a channel drain at the door and a dropped kerb sorted with the council.

About us
A crew of four, all from round here.
Hartshead Driveways is Craig Senior and three lads he’s worked with for years. Craig started out laying flags for a big firm in Leeds and set up on his own in 2011 because he was tired of watching corners get cut under drives that looked fine on the day.
We don’t subcontract. The people who dig out your drive are the same people who lay it and sweep up at the end. Most of our work comes from a neighbour seeing a finished front and knocking on the door to ask who did it.

How it works
From a photo of your front to the last sweep.
Nothing clever. We come and look, we tell you honestly what it needs, and we turn up when we said we would.

What people notice three winters later.

“Two other firms quoted without lifting a slab. These lads dug a test hole, showed me the old base was fifty mil of nothing, and explained what they’d do about it. Three years on, not a dip anywhere.”
Mirfield · Block pavingExample review
“Resin drive done in three days including the base. They sorted the dropped kerb with the council and even swept next door’s path.”
Dewsbury · Resin bound
“The patio falls away from the house like they said it would. First heavy rain and not a puddle anywhere.”
Brighouse · Porcelain patio
“Same four faces every day, finished on the Friday they promised, and the guarantee came through the door the week after.”
Huddersfield · Tarmac drive
“Craig talked us out of the more expensive blocks because they’d have fought with the brick. He was right.”

Before you book
The questions we get on the first call.
If yours isn’t here, ring Craig. He’d rather answer it than have you guess.
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Usually not. If the surface is permeable, or the water drains to a lawn or soakaway inside your boundary, you don’t need it. A new dropped kerb needs council approval, which we apply for as part of the job.
Can you go over my old concrete or tarmac?
Sometimes. If the old base is solid, level and not breaking up, resin can go straight on it. For block paving we almost always dig out, because the blocks need a sand bed and a proper sub-base. We’ll tell you which on the site visit.
How long will it take?
A typical front drive takes four to seven days from dig-out to sweeping up. A patio is usually three to five. We’ll give you dates in the quote and we stick to them unless the weather stops us.
Who deals with the dropped kerb?
We do. We apply to the council, arrange the inspection and build it to their spec. You just sign the form.
Where does the waste go?
Into our skip and off to a licensed yard. The dig-out, the old slabs and the packaging all go with us. You won’t be left with a pile at the side of the house.
What does the guarantee cover?
Ten years on the groundwork and the laying: sinking, movement, loose blocks and drainage faults. It doesn’t cover damage from a skip lorry parking on it, but we’ll still come and fix that for a fair price.
