A garden brought back into use
Overgrown lawn dug out and replaced with a sandstone patio, raised beds and new turf. Three weeks.
Patios, retaining walls, steps, lawns and planting, planned and built as one job for homes across Calderdale.
01 / Garden transformation
Most of our jobs are whole gardens: we sort the levels, lay the patio, build the walls and steps, then turf and plant. We do smaller jobs too.
We draw up one plan for the whole garden, then build it in one go. Typical jobs take two to four weeks.

A steep bank turned into two levels with a Yorkstone retaining wall and steps. Four weeks.

Patchy lawn relaid, new fencing all round and a porcelain path to the shed. Two weeks.

Most patios that sink or flood were laid on too little sub-base with no fall for the water. We dig out properly and set every level so rain runs away from the house.

We visit, measure up, check access for the digger and talk through materials and budget.
You get a written quote with a drawing of the layout. Once you’re happy, we book in a start date.
We build it in the right order, groundwork first, and finish with a full tidy-up.

Calder Landscape & Build is Jamie Firth and a team of three, based in Halifax since 2011. We spend the time on the parts you don’t see, like the sub-base, drainage and levels, so the patio is still flat and the walls still straight in ten years.
You deal with the same team from the first site visit to the final clean-up, with no subcontractors turning up halfway through.
What customers say once the work is finished.
“We’d put the garden off for years because we didn’t know where to start. They planned the whole thing, kept us updated every day and left the site spotless. We actually use the garden now.”
“Our garden is on a steep slope and they sorted the levels properly. The stone steps look like they’ve always been there.”
“Clear quote, sensible advice on materials and the patio was finished exactly when they said it would be.”
Most of our work is within half an hour of Halifax, and we’re used to steep gardens and awkward access.
If your question isn’t here, give us a ring.
Yes, that’s most of what we do. We handle everything from digging out to the final planting, so you don’t need to bring in other trades.
Yes. Being in Calderdale, most of our gardens slope. Retaining walls and steps are a big part of our work.
Your postcode, a short description of the garden and the main changes you have in mind are a useful starting point. Photos can help explain the space.
We work across Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse, Elland, Hebden Bridge, Ripponden and nearby Calderdale areas.
Yes. We’ll happily quote for just a patio, a wall or a new fence.
Tell us what you’d like to change and send a couple of photos if you can. We’ll come out, measure up and give you a written quote.
