Services

From a light trim to a full take-down.

Every tree is quoted after a visit, in writing. These are typical starting prices for a garden tree.

Crown reduction

The whole crown brought in evenly, so the tree is smaller and lighter but still looks like itself.

From £380

A climber in a helmet reaching up to cut a leafy branch

Thinning & lifting

Branches thinned to let light and wind through, or the lower crown lifted to clear a drive or roof.

From £250

A climber cutting through the top of a tall trunk with sawdust flying

Sectional felling

Trees taken down piece by piece and lowered on ropes, for tight gardens near houses and fences.

From £450

A large old tree stump in a garden lawn

Stump grinding

Stumps ground out below the surface and the hole backfilled, ready for turf or planting.

From £120

A tall bare tree in winter with a climber in the upper branches

Deadwood & safety

Dead, split and hanging branches removed before they come down on their own.

From £220

A large tree blown over across a grass path after a storm

Storm damage

Which job do I need?

Reduce, thin, lift or fell?

Tree work has its own words, and they all mean different things. Pick one to see what it does to the tree.

Crown reduction

The outside of the crown is cut back all round, usually by a quarter to a third, keeping its natural shape.

Good for
A tree that’s outgrown the garden, blocks light or overhangs the house.
Not for
“Topping” a tree flat. That causes weak regrowth and decay, so we don’t do it.

Protected trees & wildlife

We check before we cut.

Some trees need the council’s say-so before any work, and nesting birds are protected by law. Sorting that out is part of the job, not something left to you.

Tree Preservation Orders

If a tree has a TPO, the council has to give consent before most work. We check with Kirklees Council and can make the application for you.

Conservation areas

In a conservation area, the council usually needs six weeks’ notice before work on most trees. We’ll tell you if that applies and send the notice.

Nesting birds

Every tree is checked for active nests before we start, especially from March to August. If there’s one, we wait.

Questions

Before you book

Do I need permission to work on my tree?

Only if it has a Tree Preservation Order or you’re in a conservation area. We check both before quoting, and we can make the application or send the notice for you.

Can I cut back my neighbour’s branches?

Usually you can cut overhanging branches back to the boundary, as long as the tree isn’t protected. It’s good manners to talk to your neighbour first and offer them the wood. We’re happy to do the job and have that chat.

When’s the best time of year?

Most work can be done all year. Some trees are better left until they’re dormant, and from March to August we check carefully for nesting birds. We’ll tell you if waiting would be better for the tree.

What happens to the wood?

Branches are chipped and taken away for recycling. Logs can be cut to stove length and left for you, or taken away. Just say on the day.

Are you qualified and insured?

Yes. Our climbers hold NPTC certificates for climbing and chainsaw work, we carry £5 million public liability insurance, and we work to BS 3998, the British Standard for tree work. We’ll send copies on request.

Is the quote really free?

Yes. We visit, look at the tree with you and send a written quote, usually within 48 hours. No obligation.
