Why a website?

People want to see rooms like theirs before they let you start.

Most decorating work still comes from recommendations and repeat customers, and that’s no bad thing. But before someone hands over their house keys, they’ll usually look you up.

Three reasons it’s worth having one

  1. Make your work easy to judge

Decorating sells on the finished room. Crisp cutting-in, clean lines and a good finish on woodwork are easy to see in proper photos, and hard to judge on a busy feed.

  2. Show you’re clean and careful

Dust sheets, protected floors and a tidy finish matter as much as the paint. Reviews and photos show people you’ll respect their home.

  3. Lead with full redecorations

Full rooms, wallpapering and exteriors up front, so you’re not only booked for touch-ups.

What I’d build for you

Everything a customer checks before they ring

Built around the decorating work you want more of, with your best rooms up front. The screenshots are from Tidyline Decorating, an example design I’ve built for a decorator.

  1. They ask “Do you do the job I need?”

Service pages that bring in the work you want

“Decorator” covers everything from a single feature wall to a whole house inside and out. Customers want to know quickly whether you take on their job, and how you’ll prepare.

    What you get

    • Your main services near the top, led by the work you want more of
    • Plain descriptions of each one, including the prep and the paints you use
    • On Trade and Pro, a separate page for each main service, like interiors, exteriors or wallpapering
    • Smaller jobs still listed, without crowding out the work you want

Jobs your site could lead with

    • Interior painting
    • Exterior painting
    • Wallpapering
    • Woodwork and doors
    • Kitchen spraying
    • Commercial decorating
The services section of the Tidyline Decorating example design: interior painting, woodwork and doors, wallpapering, exterior painting, and preparation and repairs
Five services, each explained in a line, from the Tidyline Decorating example design
  2. They ask “Have you done a room like mine?”

Galleries that win you whole-house jobs

Customers picture their own room when they look at yours. Photos of finished lounges, hallways and fronts of houses show them the finish they can expect.

    What you get

    • Recent rooms grouped by type, with the room and the town
    • Close-ups of the detail, like cutting-in and woodwork, next to the wide shots
    • Before-and-after photos where you have them
    • Your phone photos cropped, colour-corrected and compressed so they look sharp and load fast
The recent rooms gallery of the Tidyline Decorating example design: a lounge, the front of a house, a bedroom and a dining room
Recent rooms, labelled by room and town, from the Tidyline Decorating example design
  3. They ask “Will you look after my house?”

A reputation that gets you trusted in their home

Decorators work in people’s homes while they’re living in them. Reviews, experience and how you protect the house make the decision feel safer.

    What you get

    • Genuine Google reviews, shown near your work
    • Your years in the trade and your insurance, where you have them
    • How you look after the house: dust sheets, masking and a tidy room at the end of each day
    • Only real reviews and credentials, never made-up ones
The approach section of the Tidyline Decorating example design: floors and furniture protected, switches and sockets masked, and everything hoovered at the end of every day
How they look after your house, from the Tidyline Decorating example design
  4. They ask “Do you cover my area?”

Found by people searching in your area

People search for the job and the town, like “decorator Halifax” or “painter and decorator Leeds”. Your site has to say clearly what you do and where before Google can match you to those searches.

    What you get

    • The towns you cover, listed on the pages that matter
    • Page titles, headings and descriptions that name your decorating work and your area
    • Your business details set up so search engines can read them, linked to your Google Business Profile if you have one
    • On Pro, pages for the main towns you cover. Good foundations, but nobody can honestly promise a ranking

The trade and area named in the first line people see, from the Tidyline Decorating example design
  5. They ask “How do I get a quote?”

More quote requests, with less back and forth

Someone with a room that needs doing usually just wants to know when you can fit them in. The fewer steps between them and you, the fewer enquiries slip away.

    What you get

    • Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons, plus a bar that stays at the bottom of the screen on phones
    • A short enquiry form that comes straight to you, with spam protection built in
    • Fields that ask which rooms need doing and the postcode, so you can reply properly
    • Built and tested on phones first, and quick to load on a weak signal
The quote section of the Tidyline Decorating example design: phone number and areas covered beside a form asking the postcode, what they need and which rooms

A design I built to show what a decorator’s site should do. It leads with finished rooms, explains how the house is looked after during the job, and the quote form asks which rooms need doing.

Who builds it

Built by someone who knows the trades

I’ve worked in general building for over eight years. I know what it’s like to be on site all day, then quote jobs, answer customers and keep the business going around the actual work, with most of it coming from recommendations.

I’m not a decorator, but I know the difference between a site that shows off a finished room and one that just lists “painting services”. Yours leads with the work you want more of and makes ringing you the easy next step. You deal with me throughout, not a sales team.

How it works

Three steps, live in as little as a week

You don’t need to become a web designer or a copywriter. A short call and some photos of your work, and I handle the writing, design and technical side.

  1. We talk it through

A short call about what you do, the work you want more of (full redecorations rather than touch-ups, say), the areas you cover and the rooms you’re proudest of.

  2. I build your website

I write the copy around that work, pick your best room photos and build the site around them. You don’t have to write a word.

  3. You approve it. I launch it.

You check it and ask for any changes. Once you’ve approved it, you pay and it goes live.

If you don’t approve it, you don’t pay.

What’s one extra job worth to you?

Move the sliders to your own numbers. This works out turnover, what customers pay you, not profit.

A Trade website is £495, paid once you’re happy with it. One or two jobs could cover it.

An illustration using your figures. It isn’t profit, and it isn’t a promise of extra work.

FAQ

Questions decorators ask

Keep it coming. A recommendation gets your name passed on, and your site is what backs it up when someone checks you out before letting you into their home. It’s also the one place with no other decorators suggested next to you. Why word of mouth and a website work together.

No. I build your site first, you look it over and ask for any changes. You only pay once you’re happy with it. If it’s still not right for you, you walk away owing nothing.

No. Phone photos are fine, especially in good daylight. A finished room, a freshly painted front door or a close-up of crisp cutting-in shows the standard of your work. Send me what you’ve got, and I’ll pick the best and prepare them for the site. I can also tell you which jobs are worth photographing, and you can send more to add later. How to take better photos of your work.

Yes. The quote form asks which rooms or surfaces, inside or out, and when they’d like it done, so you can price the job properly before you visit.

Yes. I’ll build the site around your logo and colours. If you don’t have a logo, the site can use your business name in a clean, simple style.

I build it with local SEO foundations in place. The page title, headings and copy name the decorating work you do and the towns you cover, so search engines can match you to searches like “painter and decorator Halifax” or “wallpaper hanger Huddersfield”. That way Google knows what you do and where, and the page is quick to load on a phone. It gives you solid foundations, but no web designer can guarantee a particular position in Google. What else helps you show up locally.

Yes. Photos of dust sheets and covered floors, and reviews that mention how tidy you are, sit near the top. For a lot of homeowners that matters as much as the finish, and it’s what gets you trusted with the whole house.

Yes. Your site can lead with the work you want more of and still show the rest. On the Trade package you can have separate pages for interior painting, exteriors and wallpapering, each with its own photos.

No. We have a short call about your business and the work you want more of, you send me some photos, and I write and build the rest.

A one-page site is usually ready in about a week, a Trade site in about two weeks and a Pro site in two to three weeks. I’ll give you a date on our first call.

Yes. Send me photos of a new job, or the change you want, and I’ll update it for you. Content updates are £30 an hour, and most new-job updates are quick. New sections or design changes are quoted separately.

Yes, it’s yours once you’ve paid for it, with no lock-in. Hosting and support are included for the first 12 months. After that it’s £19 a month, rolling, so you can cancel anytime. If you do, I’ll send you the files and transfer your domain so you can host it wherever you like.
