Why a website?

Homeowners want to see what you’ve built before they let you start.

Most building work still comes from recommendations and repeat customers, and that’s no bad thing. But before someone commits to an extension or a renovation, they’ll usually look you up.

Three reasons it’s worth having one

  1. Show projects like theirs

An extension or a renovation is a big decision and a big bill. Finished projects, grouped by type, show homeowners you’ve done work like theirs, and done it well.

  2. Back up the big quote

A five-figure quote needs more than a name passed on. Reviews, insurance and knowing who runs the job give a homeowner the confidence to say yes.

  3. Lead with the projects you want

Extensions and renovations up front, with smaller jobs still listed, so the bigger enquiries come to you first.

What I’d build for you

Everything a homeowner checks before they ring

Built around the projects you want more of, with room for the detail that wins building work. The screenshots are from example designs I’ve built for building firms.

  1. They ask “Do you take on jobs like mine?”

Service pages that bring in the projects you want

“Builder” can mean anything from a two-storey extension to repointing a wall. Homeowners want to know quickly whether you take on their kind of project, and how you run it.

    What you get

    • Your main services near the top, led by the projects you want more of
    • Plain descriptions of each one, including what you handle yourselves and what you bring other trades in for
    • On Trade and Pro, a separate page for each main service, like extensions, renovations or conversions
    • Smaller jobs still listed, without crowding out the projects you want

Jobs your site could lead with

    • Extensions
    • Renovations
    • Knock-throughs
    • Garage conversions
    • Brickwork
    • Repairs and smaller jobs

  2. They ask “Have you done a job like mine?”

Project galleries that win you the bigger jobs

Homeowners want to see a finished project like theirs. Progress shots help too: footings, steels and first fix done properly show the work behind the finish.

    What you get

    • Finished projects grouped by type, so an extension customer sees extensions
    • Progress shots next to the finished result
    • Before-and-after photos where you have them
    • Your phone photos cropped, colour-corrected and compressed so they look sharp and load fast

  3. They ask “Can I trust you with my home?”

A reputation that wins the quote before you’ve visited

Building work means a big spend and weeks of disruption. Reviews, experience, insurance and knowing who runs the job make the decision feel safer.

    What you get

    • Genuine Google reviews, shown near your projects
    • How long you’ve been building, plus insurance, guarantees and memberships where you have them
    • Who runs the job and how you keep customers posted
    • Only real reviews and credentials, never made-up ones
The “What you can expect from us” section of the Fairbank Building example design: one team and one quote, a named contact, fixed written quotes, tidy sites, certificates and guaranteed work
What customers can expect, set out clearly, from the Fairbank Building example design
  4. They ask “Do you cover my area?”

Found by homeowners searching in your area

Homeowners search for the job and the town, like “extension builders Halifax” or “builder Leeds”. Your site has to say clearly what you do and where before Google can match you to those searches.

    What you get

    • The towns you cover, listed on the pages that matter
    • Page titles, headings and descriptions that name your building work and your area
    • Your business details set up so search engines can read them, linked to your Google Business Profile if you have one
    • On Pro, pages for the main towns you cover. Good foundations, but nobody can honestly promise a ranking

A clear map of the towns covered, from the Fairbank Building example design
  5. They ask “How do I talk through my project?”

More enquiries turned into booked surveys

Someone planning an extension usually wants a chat or a visit before anything else. The fewer steps between them and you, the fewer enquiries slip away.

    What you get

    • Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons, plus a bar that stays at the bottom of the screen on phones
    • A short enquiry form that comes straight to you, with spam protection built in
    • Fields that ask for the type of work and the town or postcode, so you can reply properly
    • Built and tested on phones first, and quick to load on a weak signal
The contact section of the Fairbank Building example design: phone, email and hours beside a quote form asking where the job is, the type of work and what needs doing

A design I built for a loft and extension firm. It leads with the big jobs, from dormer lofts to rear extensions, shows finished projects, and asks people to book a home survey rather than fill in a generic form.

Who builds it

Built by someone who knows the trades

I’ve worked in general building for over eight years. I know what it’s like to be on site all day, then quote jobs, answer customers and keep the business going around the actual work, with most of it coming from recommendations.

So I know the difference between a site that shows off a finished extension and one that just lists “general building”. Yours leads with the projects you want more of, and gives homeowners what they need to pick up the phone. You deal with me throughout, not a sales team.

How it works

Three steps, live in as little as a week

You don’t need to become a web designer or a copywriter. A short call and some photos of your work, and I handle the writing, design and technical side.

  1. We talk it through

A short call about what you do, the projects you want more of (extensions rather than small repairs, say), the areas you cover and the jobs you’re proudest of.

  2. I build your website

I write the copy around those projects, pick your best photos and build the site around them. You don’t have to write a word.

  3. You approve it. I launch it.

You check it and ask for any changes. Once you’ve approved it, you pay and it goes live.

If you don’t approve it, you don’t pay.

Pricing

Every package includes custom design, copy written for you, your own domain, 12 months’ hosting and local search setup. New site or redesign, you see it before you pay.

After the first year, hosting is £19 a month. It’s rolling, so you can cancel anytime.

What’s one extra job worth to you?

Move the sliders to your own numbers. This works out turnover, what customers pay you, not profit.

Extra turnover

A Trade website is £495, paid once you’re happy with it. One or two jobs could cover it.

An illustration using your figures. It isn’t profit, and it isn’t a promise of extra work.

FAQ

Questions builders ask

Keep it coming. A recommendation gets your name passed on, and your site is what backs it up when a homeowner checks you out before a big job. It’s also the one place with no other builders suggested next to you. Why word of mouth and a website work together.

No. I build your site first, you look it over and ask for any changes. You only pay once you’re happy with it. If it’s still not right for you, you walk away owing nothing.

No. Phone photos are fine, and progress shots help too. Footings going in or a steel being fitted shows the work behind the finish. Send me what you’ve got, and I’ll pick the best and prepare them for the site. I can also tell you which projects are worth photographing, and you can send more to add later. How to take better photos of your work.

Yes. Your public liability, any guarantees you offer and memberships like the FMB or TrustMark sit near the top of the page and next to the quote form, right where homeowners look before they let you start on their house.

Yes. I’ll build the site around your logo and colours. If you don’t have a logo, the site can use your business name in a clean, simple style.

I build it with local SEO foundations in place. The page title, headings and copy name the work you do and the towns you cover, so search engines can match you to searches like “extension builders Halifax”. That way Google knows what you do and where, and the page is quick to load on a phone. It gives you solid foundations, but no web designer can guarantee a particular position in Google. What else helps you show up locally.

Yes. Each project gets its own write-up with before, during and after photos, the type of job and the town, so someone planning an extension can see exactly how you run a build from start to finish.

Yes. Plenty of builders do both. Your site can lead with the projects you want more of and still make it clear you take on smaller jobs, so you don’t lose the work that keeps the diary full.

Yes. The Starter site puts all your services on one page, with the ones you want most up front. If you’d like separate pages for extensions, renovations and so on, the Trade package gives you up to 5 pages and Pro up to 10. Compare packages.

No. We have a short call about your business and the work you want more of, you send me some photos, and I write and build the rest.

A one-page site is usually ready in about a week, a Trade site in about two weeks and a Pro site in two to three weeks. I’ll give you a date on our first call.

Yes. Send me photos when a project finishes, and I’ll add it. Content updates are £30 an hour, and most new-project updates are quick. New sections or design changes are quoted separately.

Yes, it’s yours once you’ve paid for it, with no lock-in. Hosting and support are included for the first 12 months. After that it’s £19 a month, rolling, so you can cancel anytime. If you do, I’ll send you the files and transfer your domain so you can host it wherever you like.
